Default ADM3A emulator

Grant,

I'd be very interested in one of these - I envision a small "project box" with serial input, ps2/usb and vga/dvi ports, though of course ps2 and vga alone would be more than adequate for the next couple of years. Net result would be a 21st century dumb terminal with nice "clicky" keyboard and flat panel display. I agree, this would be much better than Hyperterm on a laptop. Also, a true dumb terminal is always preferable for troubleshooting - no issues with unexpected control characters mucking up the display.

Please let me know when you have one available either for sale or for testing.

Thanks!

Jack

Default Ditto Jack's thread....

..... With the increased availability of kits I'm finding it hard to keep swaping around. A small box with a PS/2 and composite video would be more to my liking. If they are inexpensive enough, I can purchase dedicate units for my collection. There must be some european customers that would like a PAL version (or a selector switch?)

I know this message is old but there is a device that does something like this.
You plug a VGA monitor and PS/2 keyboard into it and it acts like a dumb terminal.
It responds to VT-100 codes rather than ADM-3A codes, though. It's called PockeTerm and is available at

yeah - I bugged Vince about the same thing for a couple of years. Bob Armstrong also came out with a similar device - http://www.sparetimegizmos.com/Hardware/VT.htm

All of those are too little for too much...

My eventual plan was to use a 133MHz 486SX computer with a cost of under $100. Put linux on compact flash and have it boot into a terminal program. Much more versitle. It even runs X windows so you can look at PDF manuals on one of the outher consoles.

I've personally used the eBox mini and it works great. I ran Debian linux on it. The standard distribution installed on it. The FPU emulation was in the standard install kernel.

I'll try to get to the other messages on here.

Wow. Grant. Good to see you are still around! Really good.

Look for a few messages from me, or a PM or email or two!

Default Too much for too little?

Grant,

I spent $1000 for a computer 30 years obsolete, in componet form, to do pretty much nothing except look cool on my display shelf.

What does cost and practical application have to do with any of this? Ha ha.

Aaron
