Anyone Around??? What happened to the Kenbak kit?

Hi Everyone...

It's been a while since the anouncement of the Kenbak kit.

June 12th was the anouncement that the kit was finished and would ship in a couple weeks.

June 27th was the notice that the kits would ship the first week of July.

July 16th word arrived that the goal was to ship in two more weeks, a week longer for a signature by the designer.

Six more weeks have passed. Are we getting closer to a firm availability date?

Understand, I don't mean to complain. The orignal Altair 8800 was announced January 1975, but didn't ship until April. The Altair 680 was announced November 1975, but shipped mid 1976. So we kit-builders are a bit used to delays. It's interesting that when the original Altair was delayed, nobody wanted their money back. I'm sure everyone interested in this kit is willing to wait until x-mas, but we're probably just a little bit "antsy" without any news. How about an update?

- Steven.

I had to send back all production 19 Kenbak-1 and 19 Altair 680 front panels because they were not good enough.

I was promised their return for quite a while! I finally received them this Tuesday. The Kenbak-1 panels will be mailed out for a signature Monday next week.

All the while I have been VERY busy with my real job. :) I am going to be sending the mailing address and collecting checks next week for the kits.

It has been a lot longer than I had ever planned. I wanted to be ordering another 20 Altair 8800 cases by now! :( It takes about 4-5 weeks to get the cases and I don't want to place the order until I have cash in hand.

I have been trying to update the website too. When I took the last set of pictures I couldn't open up the case because one of the screws was stripped and I was short on time. I've got pictures of the inside and completed logic board now. I will try to get that done this weekend.

I hope you all understand and aren't getting too upset! :(

I don't like announcing kits until all parts are actually in my possession. With these last two kits everything looked like it would fall together and I actually had all 20 cases, I just had problems with the front panels. 1 week turned into...you get the idea... ;) You can see how things backfired on this one, but not too bad.

The very first batch of 5 Altair 8800 kit cases were supposed to be delivered in 6-8 weeks. It was about 16 weeks before I had the first set of cases... I'm GLAD I didn't announce that one "early". :)

The second order of 8800 cases was quick and smooth.

Just to give you an idea, I mailed back the 19 Altair 680 cases mid April, and like I said earlier JUST received them! ;)

I am working on another kit (nothing else to do while waiting for cases!), but I won't talk about it until its 100% ready! :D
