Kit Options - Display only?

What a fantastic kit you have re-created! Some of us can't afford the compltee kit but would love to have a "shell" for display. I was wondering if you would ever consider selling just the case and front LEDS's and Switches only? Another words, a non-working display.

Again, congrats on a great item for us Altair worshipers.

Thats possible. I will have to think about all the details associated with it.

What you could do is buy the case only and Rich Cini's Altair32 circuit board when it comes out. It connects to his Altair emulator. You could then mount an ATX motherboard and all the other stuff associated with a full PC inside the Altair case.

Along the lines of buying the "shell/front panel", I was thinking it would be great to be able to buy each board kit "One Piece At A Time" to make it less strenuous...both on the wallet and the reactions from the "other halves" out there who wouldn't really "get it".

I know I'd be willing to do that!! ..."get away with it"...? :)

In addition, you may be able to recover your investment quicker with a continuous (albiet smaller) flow of income.

I don't know this, but it's a thought.

I do know that I'd much rather have your "new" reproduction over an original. I've been building / programming (for myself and the fun of it) since 1979, and I'm more the hardware/experimenter than collector, so I'd "use/abuse" the computer for sheer enjoyment, rather than pointing at it going "ooohhh....ahhhh...".

I cut my teeth on a homebuilt 8080 using octal (base 8) code as my number system...377 and the such... Letters aren't numbers and I believe you should never add letters together....hard to say what you'd end up spelling in German.

I will work out individual kit pricing very soon. Check back in a few days. :) The individual kits have a much better availability than the full system.

I am also willing to sell all the parts except the case for those who wish to make their own enclosure!

MITS had a plan where over 8 months!!! you would own an Altair.

I'm typing this from page 25 of the July 1975 Popular Electronics magazine:

Month One - Assembly, Operator, and Therory of Operation manuals
Month Two - Power supply
Month Three - Expander Card
Month Four - Case with Hardware
Month Five - 1k static memory board with 256b of memory
Month Six - CPU board with all components except processor chip
Month Seven - Control Board with all components
Month Eight - Processor chip

The price was $68.75 per month (Altair kit for $439, Memory for $103, and $8 for shipping made $550 total). Of course $550 in 1975 is about $2060 today. :)
